Energy Efficiency

Commercial Utility Brokers ltd understand that we all have an obligation to protect the environment in which we live. Almost half of the Uks CO2 emissions are as a result of the energy we use. If we are to meet kyoto protocol targets, UK enterprises must commit to a strong energy efficiency policy.

Expert advice

Our energy efficiency team can provide FREE advice in implementing your organisation’s policy. This includes advice on equipment, procedures and staff training.

ECA Energy Scheme

The Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme is a key part of the Governments programme to manage climate change. It provides businesses with enhanced tax relief for investments in equipment that meets published energy- saving criteria. Our team can advise on the implications this has for your business.

Climate Change Levy

The Uks climate change programme was launched by the British Government in response to its commitment to the Kyoto Protocol on global warming. It aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions not only by the agreed levels, but by 20% by 2010. The levy is a tax on corporate energy use. CUB can help companies that qualify for exemption to further save up to 8% on energy bills.

Commercial Energy Performance Certificates

Energy performance certificates (EPCs) are to be required for buildings under Article 7 of the EU Energy Performance in Buildings Directive. Certificates will grade performance on a scale from A-G similar to the system used for grading white goods. There are two types for commercial buildings: asset certificates and operating certificates. Asset certificates will measure the intrinsic energy performance of the building based on its design. Operating certificates will measure how the building is managed and actually performs. Asset certificates will have to be renewed every 10 years and shown on points of sale, lease and lease renewal. The purpose is to encourage better buying behaviour in both building owners and tenants. We can offer advice on the implications of your grade and how to practically improve upon it.
